People of the Drylands
Dryland's culture hearths were origins of powerful ideas and innovations that have shaped the human world. About 12,000 years ago, in the drylands of Southwest Asia, the first agricultural revolution brought momentous change by increasing population, expanding settlements, and providing comparative stability. Early seed agriculture was based on wheat and barley, cereals that were derived from wild drought resistant grasses. These grasses still grow in the drylands, and they are a priceless genetic stock for future crops.
