The photograph below, taken on 14 January 1986, shows a layer of stratocumulus clouds extending from seaward to the coastal mountains in the Norte Chico region of Chile. Caleta Chungungo, a fishing village, lies beneath the clouds in the upper center of the photograph. A dry stream channel, Quebrada de los Choros, extends across the upper right of the Space Shuttle photo.
