Dr. André joined the Center for Earth and Planetary Studies in 2004 after completing her Ph.D. in Geological
Sciences at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. Sarah also holds a Masters degree in Geological Sciences
from Northwestern University and a Bachelors degree in Geological Sciences from the University of Rochester.
Dr. André's research interests include planetary tectonics, remote sensing, and mapping of planetary surfaces.
Current research projects are (1) the characterization and structure of craters and basins on Mercury using image and
topographic data (2) the detection of mercurian impact basins and shallow craters missed in the initial analysis of
Mariner 10 images and (3) the study of impact basins on the Moon using lunar topography. Dr. André is also involved
in the development of image processing and stereogrammetric techniques to produce digital elevation models. Previous
research has included studies of the physical properties of meteorites and of the meteorite-asteroid connection.
