BIOS
Dr. Peter L. Jakab
Curator
Dr. Peter L. Jakab is chairman of
the Aeronautics Division of the Smithsonian Institution’s
National Air and Space Museum. He has been with the museum since
1983. He holds a bachelor’s degree, master’s degree
and doctorate in American history from Rutgers University. His
areas of specialization include the history of technology, aerospace
history and American social and cultural history. Jakab has curated
numerous exhibitions at the National Air and Space Museum and
has frequently lectured on the history of technology, the history
of invention, the Wright brothers and pioneer aviation. His publications
include the books “Visions of a Flying Machine: The Wright
Brothers and the Process of Invention” (Smithsonian Institution
Press, 1990) and “The Published Writings of Wilbur and Orville
Wright” (Smithsonian Institution Press, 2000). He is co-author
of “The Wright Brothers and The Invention of the Aerial
Age” (National Geographic, 2003), the companion book to
the National Air and Space Museum exhibition.
Barbara Brennan
Designer
Barbara Brennan is the senior member
of the Design Division of the National Air and Space Museum. She
has been with the museum since 1980. She holds a bachelor’s
degree in fine arts and a master’s degree in art history
from Indiana University, and a master’s of fine arts degree
in theater/set design from George Washington University. She has
been designer of several museum exhibitions including “How
Things Fly,” for which she was also project manager. Brennan
has been an adjunct professor and lecturer on the subjects of
design, art history and exhibition development.
