National Air and Space Museum Aviation/Space Writers Award

The National Air and Space Museum is offering a grant of $5,000, to be awarded in even-numbered years (2010, 2012, 2014, etc.), to support research on aerospace topics. The product created as a result of the grant must be in any form suitable for potential public dissemination in print, electronic, or broadcast or other visual medium, including, but not limited to a book manuscript, a video or film script, or monograph. Potential topics might be contemporary aviation or space events that are of interest to the general public; significant historical events or persons that have contributed to the advancement of human flight; a record or compendium of aerospace source material.

Funds may be used to support research travel and expenses, or to produce a product of the research as outlined above. Applicants for National Air and Space Museum or Smithsonian Fellowships are encouraged to apply for the Aviation/Space Writers Award, but recipients of the award need not be in residence at the National Air and Space Museum. Candidates should submit FOUR (4) collated copies of their application, consisting of the following: 1) an application cover sheet; 2) a maximum two-page, single-spaced proposal stating the subject of their research and their research goals; 3) a one to two-page curriculum vitae; and 4) a one-page detailed budget explaining how the grant will be spent.
