

Site Preparation
Smithsonian and Commonwealth of Virginia officials
have worked together to prepare the site for the new museum. The
work funded by Virginia includes:
Package 1
The Cherry Hill Construction Co. started work in the spring of 2000
and completed it in the Spring of 2002, as shown in the site
preparation pictures.
- Clearance and grading of the site.
- Preparation of storm drainage systems.
- Installation of underground ducting for utilities.
- Erection of fences (last step in package.)
Package 2
The Virginia Dept of Transportation awarded the contract to New Construction,
Inc., in September 2001.
- Preparation of a link to runway 1R-19L
- Extension of utilities to the site.
- Construction of access roads, pedestrian walks,
and parking lots.
Package 3
The Virginia Dept of Transportation awarded the contract
to Shirley Construction Co. in May 2002.
- Addition of an interchange on route 28.
Package 4
The Smithsonian Institution awarded the contract
to Environmental Quality Resources, LLC, in 2003.
- Wetlands mitigation at Manassas National Battlefield
Park.
