First sighted in 1801 by Italian astronomer Giuseppe Piazzi, Ceres was the first and largest asteroid to be discovered. It takes only 9 hours to rotate on its axis.  The Hubble Space Telescope imaged different faces of Ceres in 2003 and 2004.

2003 UB₃₁₃

The body designated 2003 UB₃₁₃ is a cold world that is larger than Pluto and more than three times farther from the Sun .  Mike Brown of Caltech, Chad Trujillo of the Gemini Observatory, and David Rabinowitz of Yale discovered the object in 2005 as they analyzed imagery collected over a year earlier.
