Saturn and Satellites Imagery
123k GIF
This true color picture was assembled from Voyager 2 Saturn images obtained August 4 from
a distance of 21 million kilometers 13 million miles. Three of Saturn's moons are visible
to the left. They are, in order of distance from the planet: Tethys, 1,050 km (652 mi.) in
diameter; Dione, 1,120 km (696 mi.) in diameter; and Rhea, 1,530 km. (951 mi.) in
diameter. The shadow of Tethys appears on Saturn's southern hemisphere. The pastel and
yellow hues on the planet reveal many contrasting bright and darker bands in both
hemispheres of Saturn's weather system.

Saturn's C-Ring
171k GIF
This photographic mosaic of Saturn is from data obtained August 20, 1981 when Voyager 2
was 5.7 million kilometers (3.4 million miles) from the planet. At this resolution, the
smallest visible features are 100 km. (60 mi.) across.

Saturn and Satellites Mosaic
98k GIF
This montage was prepared from images taken by Voyager 1 during its flight through the
Saturnian system in November, 1980. Saturn and its rings dominate the artist's view, which
also shows six of the planet's 15 known satellites. Moving clockwise from the right, this
view shows Tethys and pockmarked Mimas in front of the planet, Enceladus in front of the
rings, Dione in the forefront to the left, Rhea off the left edge of the rings, and Titan
in its distant orbit at the top.
